Corking Dolly. 5.4m long. Started when I was about 10 years old.

This will be the biggest pom-pon that I've ever made. Started when I was at primary school!

Drinks coaster. Kit from Mollie Makes.

Bag of 10 x 10 cm knitted squares, made by my Grandmother. Enough squares to make a single bed size blanket. All need sewing together! Was given to me by my aunt when Nan died

Autumnal Scarf. Rapidly becoming my favourite piece. Wanted to felt it, but the acrylic content is too high. So far has 4 and a bit balls of yarn, and I've got another five to use. Scarf is becoming a blanky.

Crochet 'boyfriend hoody' from Inside Crochet magazine. Wrong stitch, wrong yarn, wrong size. Oh well. I'll make it work somehow!

Granny A Day Project. May have given up.

Crochet dishcloth! With actual dishcloth cotton!! Bitch to work with, keeps splitting.

Yarn basket has now become a 'Work In Progress' Basket. Looks neat, huh? Won't stay that way.

Crochet Hoody WIP

Hello.

For what feels like forever, I have been working on a crochet hoody, following a pattern from Inside Crochet mag. I started this pattern before Christmas, did 20-something rows and undid it all (it was a hodgepodge of stitches and wonky). I finally decided to give it another go - I have done 72ch, but am working it to 71 rows. I thought this would help make it slightly wider.

Currently, it has 1 foundation row, and 39 stitch rows, and measures 18 inches long by 14 inches wide. (Total rows needed is 71). My mom measured my back, from the nape of my neck to my tail bone. This measures 23 inches. Soooo, by doing some quick mental maths, we can concur that in 5 inches time (give or take 10 rows), I'll be at the required length for the back piece.

Also; when measuring clothes, I was brought up to measure seams to the halfway point of your body (eg, half way past hip bones/waist). This 14 inch wide strip of material is no where near wide enough! I know I haven't done the edge for it yet, and I also know it hasn't been blocked and that it will stretch. I just can't help but feel it's all the wrong way round?!

If I hold it up against my body, it makes more sense to turn it on its side, but then I'm working in the wrong direction. I am SO CONFUSED.

PS. I'm working it in double treble (UK). I read a blog today that says it should be Herringbone Half Treble. BUGGER. I am not undoing it all again!!!

PPS. Help.

ETA: I have realised I'm using a 4mm hook, instead of a 3.75mm. Will this make much of a difference? I didn't make a swatch either - life's too short ;)

Felting Crochet?

Hullo :)

A little while ago I finished a piece of crochet; its beautiful and it took me ages (its stripy, autumnal colours, length & width of a scarf?, yellows and reds and purples and blues)

I really really am in love with it, its the best thing I've made, but I want to felt it so that I can use it as a dread wrap/scarf, without it stretching a lot.

I'm scared to felt it though! Really anxious. I don't want to ruin it. That and I've never felted before.

Sooooooo, how would I go about felting, in a washing machine (although I don't mind trying by hand), how much would it shrink, any hints & tips advice, and am I right to be scared?!

Crochet

I rather spectacularly fell off the Granny A Day wagon quite a long time go; I blame the ex, heartbreak, uni, stress, potentially life changing decisions & my depression. I'm back on it now though!

I went home to my parents house, quite late on Friday evening (10pm ish) - I was craving doing some crochet, and all of my yarn and hooks had already been taken back as part of my move back home.

I made two granny squares whilst I was there:

I forgot to get a pic of the second – it is orange (neon!) with a red layer around it.

Today I have made a large yellow and blue granny:

And have already used it as a duster. My Granny A Day total is now up to about 27, but I didn’t bring all my yarn with me (I’m meant to be moving out, not back in!) so I only have red, yellow & blue. Also didn’t look at the hooks I picked up – I’ve managed to come home with two 4.5mm hooks! Oh well.

Today I’ve been sat in, waiting for someone to come and have a look at the room, so I decided to master a crochet flower. I was planning to make the flower in the latest edition of Mollie Makes. That didn’t work. I couldn’t/still can’t figure out what a slip ring is?! Is it just a magic ring? Why don’t they just say that?! (Why doesn’t someone come up with an international standard crochet terminology?!! It’d make things a lot easier). So anyway, I promptly gave up with MM, (there’s a surprise), and turned to ye olde faithful, Google.

I found a few UK patterns that had fairly impressive looking flowers, I’d like to make them all! But I decided to try a simple one first, and I made these:

YAY! First ever crochet flowers (I text my mom “my first ever crowshit flours”, hehehe)
So I am quite pleased with myself today. Think I may make loads more! Why not. It’s raining out (pouring down) and I’m not quite in the mood to start reading my next book (Sense and Sensibility).

Crochet Project

This is my new Crochet Project. Any guesses as to what it may be..?

Crochet

A few things I've made as I'm teaching myself to crochet! I tend to make something as an excuse for practicing my stitches.. I don't make a swatch but instead make a 'something'! :-)


This was meant to become a hat, but the yarn was too thick/stiff, so I fashioned it into table placemat for my Nan. The yarn was given to me by my Aunt when my other Nan died a few years ago. Recycling!


Pretty evident I should hope! My crochet hook holder, made with 3 yarns held as 1 (red, white & blue!) and a 9mm hook.


My first ever granny square! Made with a ball of yarn from Wilkos, and then a bit of scrap to finish off the edge (dark blue on left).


A pear! Well, not really. It's a head, for a cuddly teddy/stuffed dog, called Pepper. I'm using a pattern from Inside Crochet magazine - you can see it here: http://insidecrochet.wordpress.com/2011/08/10/pepper-puppy-by-claire-sibley/ - I'm planning on making one for my niece and one for my nephew, but I started about 3 weeks ago and only have one head....
